Won’t good moral, ethical people go to heaven?

Transcript of the video

It is true that we can find many good people, who are good by man’s standards. But God’s standards are not man’s standards. God’s holiness is perfect. That is why the Bible says that everyone has fallen short of God’s standard.

(Rom 3:23 NIV)  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

While some people are more righteous than others, think for a moment how this is relevant when we are viewing from God’s viewpoint. Supposing someone has an IQ of 150, very high indeed, while another who is not so fortunate only has an IQ of 80. While the first is much smarter than the second, how are they compared to God who has an infinite knowledge? It doesn’t seem to make much of a difference, does it?

Similarly, even the best of man’s righteous deeds are nothing when viewed in comparison to God’s standard. That is why the Bible says that our good deeds are not sufficient to save us and we need God.

(Eph 2:8-9 GNB)  For it is by God’s grace that you have been saved through faith. It is not the result of your own efforts, but God’s gift, so that no one can boast about it.
